Erectile Dysfunction and Diabetes

Erectile dysfunction occurs due to old age and other factors such as psychological problems, hormonal imbalance, cigarette and tobacco use, alcohol abuse, brain or spinal cord injuries, side-effects of some drugs and certain medical conditions such as liver failure or kidney failure.  Apart from these, there is also a relationship between Diabetes and Erectile Dysfunction.  The risk of sexual dysfunction increases with men having diabetes. 

When men cannot control their diabetes, then erectile dysfunction may occur. Diabetes if not controlled results in damage to the nerves and blood circulation to the male organ. Hence it is important to keep the blood glucose level normal, which may help reduce the problems proportionately. Factors like stress and anxiety may cause erectile dysfunction and Diabetes  is a severe metabolic disorder and it needs men suffering from it to keep their blood sugar  levels as near to normal as possible.   Unnoticed diabetes or atherosclerosis which is hardening of the arteries may also trigger sexual dysfunction. Other direct causes of diabetes and erectile dysfunction, besides a physiological defect or chronic health problem, are obesity, the intake of drugs like antidepressants, advancing age, an unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, physical inactivity and obesity which are directly linked to the rise in Type II diabetes and erectile dysfunction.
